Learn More About Our Historic Paraty Hotel
Discover the history of Sandi's Inn hotel - a love story with the city of Paraty lived over three generations spanning the last 50 years. Joviro Foz, the father of the current owner, first discovered Paraty via the invitation of a friend, Mr. Jamil Klink, father of the great navigator Amyr Klink. Mr. Jamil, who had some properties in the region, showed Joviro the place that today is Villa Bom Jardim. It was love at first sight and the villa became a family retreat for leisure time.

At that time, Paraty was accessed by a precarious dirt road and the cars needed to get down via train. Lampposts lit up the picturesque city streets. It was a jewel! From the very beginning, the family established a wonderful relationship with the local community that has lasted to this very day.
In the 80's, Sandra Foz (daughter of Joviro) met her future husband, Alexandre Adamiu, who was president of Paris Movies. Again, it was love at first sight! Alexander, who was a visionary, saw the villa as something special. He bought an abandoned mansion with no prospects in the heart of the Historic Center. After a six-year renovation completed in 1987, he presented Sandra with the Pousada do Sandi - the first luxury hotel in Paraty and a success from the very beginning.
At his cinema, Alexandre decided to show ads for the Pousada and Paraty at the beginning of the feature films of Paris Filmes, which made the Pousada do Sandi famous in Brazil. Big names in international and national cinema were invited to stay at the hotel by the couple.
It was Alexandre who brought the movie King Kong to Brazil, where it became the first movie to break the million dollar barrier in the country. Two large King Kong statues, which served as a display in the cinemas during the movie premiere, are in the Gardens of Villa Bom Jardim, and it is possible to see them during a boat trip through Paraty Bay.
Sandra Foz is responsible for every detail in the inn. She opted for a tropical décor with works by local artists along with a cinematic décor (due to the family's connection with this branch), with cinematic memorabilia that includes a beautiful 35mm projector, handwritten original letters from Rita Hayworth to Jack Warner and Alfred Hitchcock memorabilia, as well as classic posters, which you can see throughout the inn. Undoubtedly, the décor is one of the many unique charms of Pousada do Sandi!
In 2008 Sandra received the honor of becoming a Paraguayan citizen, along with the key to the city, from the hands of the mayor in recognition of her dedication to the local community, and the love given to Paraty.
The name "Pousada do Sandi" is a tribute to the Father of Alexandre, the Romanian immigrant and founder of Paris Movies, Sandi Adamiu. The same name is given to the couple's only child, who now looks after the family business. Even in 2007, he and his partner at Paris Films have achieved something unprecedented: making Paraty the scene of a world blockbuster! They brought the filming of the movie Breaking Dawn, Part 4 of the Twilight Saga to the city, which served as the honeymoon destination of the romantic vampires.
From King Kong to Vampires, there are many fascinating chapters in the love story between Pousada do Sandi and Paraty!
